PKZ2200 "Gunfighter" P-51 D Mustang BL DSM RTF

The P-51 is the most famous of the American "big three" from World War Two.
Initially designed to meet a British requirement for fighter service in Europe, the P-51 D became the leading US fighter in the European Theatre of Operation during the final months of the war.

It was the first fighter with a laminar wing design, an exceptional internal fuel capacity, and low drag- enabling it to reach staggering end speeds of that time, and fly extended combat radius. Its signature bubble canopy for better visibility and dorsal fin to control stability problems were introduced in 1943.

It was faster than almost everything in the air, climbed reasonably well, and suffered much less in high-speed manoeuvres than most of its opponents due to the wing design. With the introduction of these long-range fighters, the Allies were finally able to infiltrate enemy territory, making the P-51D the best escort for long-range bombers.

The "Gunfighter" was part of the 55th Fighter Group, and on March 3 1944 they were the first USAAF combat unit to fly over Berlin. They were also one of the units to provide top cover over the invasion beaches at Normandy on "D-Day", June 6th 1944. By the end of World War II the P-51 Mustang was a true aviation legend, having destroyed more enemy aircraft than any other Allied fighter in Europe.

Today, "Gunfighter" resides with retired Brigadier General Reg Urschler, its primary pilot and 35 year Air Force veteran in Bellevue, Nebraska, USA.

In addition to its accurate scale outline the model also features a finely moulded airframe complete with moulded panel line and hatch detail, a pre-painted and historically accurate "Gunfighter" colour scheme with a pilot figure inside the cockpit.

The P-51 D "Gunfighter" not only combines incredible looks and flightperformance, its 480 brushless outrunner motor delivers very realistic warbird performance allowing pilots to emulate the full-size Mustang displays with low "beat-ups" and nice slow "victory rolls".
