The Van's RV-9 aircraft is a two-seat (side by side) single-engine,low-wing homebuilt airplane sold in kit form by Van's Aircraft basedin Aurora State Airport, Oregon USA. The RV-9 is a tail-wheel equippedaircraft and a development of earlier RV-6 and RV-7 models and externallyit looks very similar to both those designs, however an increasedwingspan and other airframe changes give it different flying styleall together.
The earlier versions of the RV aircraft series were all designedto have light handling, moderate aerobatic capabilities along withfast cruise speeds and short field STOL capabilities. The RV-9 wasdesigned from the start as a two-seat, side-by-side, touring aircraftand as such it forgoes the aerobatic capabilities and the lighterhandling for more stability and economy.
